Hi, I'm Nikko
Hi! I'm Nikko Markakos, an 18 year old student at Delaware County Community College. I spend my days at the gym, with my buddies, and traveling up and down the Jersey coast with my girlfriend, going to concerts and many different places to eat. When I’m at home I’m chilling with my English Bulldog Milo, probably on Xbox or Netflix.
My favorite novelist is John Steinbeck, my favorite book is Of Mice and Men and I’ve read many of his others including Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. I like the setting of out west and his writing style makes each character come to life and portrays the working class of that time. My favorite poet is Lord Byron, I adore the romantic era poets in general and the emphasis on individuality. His love poems She Walks In Beauty, When We Two Parted, and Remind Me Not, Remind Me Not are favorites that I almost am able to recite. That alongside his rebellious and extravagant life (and aide in the Greek Revolution) make him my favorite. I spend most of my time however reading historical books.
As far as music goes, Kanye West. Although I have a very eclectic taste in music.
Most of the writing I do is through a text conversation, anything else is mostly because of school. Despite this I always thought writing poetry was really cool and eventually I’d like to start a journal when my life gets more interesting. Making music has always been something fascinating to me as well, maybe one day.
I write best when I really feel it. There are a lot of times where I can’t even put word to paper and other times where I feel like I could write as much as possible. Something I hope this blog will help. I mostly write on my laptop due to the requirements of the time we live in however I find writing with a pencil and paper more enjoyable and easier.
I write to make sense of my thoughts, feelings, problems and anything else on my mind. Putting it on paper can be just as cathartic as talking about it and sometimes seeing it written out can really help you think about it more. Writing stories and anecdotes related to or inspired by your life can help get through them.
Throughout this experience I hope to expand on all aspects of writing and become more well rounded and expressive.
